The project, called Windows Azure, was unveiled by Microsoft head techie Ray Ozzie during a conference for more than 6000 Microsoft software developers, Los Angeles Convention Center. Azure is an ambitious effort to create an operating system that allows for greater flexibility in using Windows—letting companies run some programs on their own computer networks while also commissioning Microsoft to dole out other more tasks from its own massive data centers!
Microsoft gets ready to announce Windows 7
Yesterday the Seattle-based technology company took the lid off Azure, a project that aims to bring internet-based applications under its umbrella, & later today chief software architect Ray Ozzie is expected to reveal Windows 7, the successor to Vista operating system.
Microsoft: We didn’t ‘forget’ Azure trademark
According to the spokeswoman, Microsoft submitted a trademark application for “Azure” last Friday. Earlier Monday, Ray Ozzie, the company’s chief software architect, unveiled Windows Azure, a cloud computing version of its O.S.. Azure, which will compete with Amazon.com Inc.’s Elastic Compute Cloud, targets developers who create online services & software.

[...] Ozzie: The day-to-day writing of code, and many of the modules that they may have already built in their products will translate fairly readily. But things that are fundamentally different tend to be at the application frame-work level, meaning the fundamental assumption in Windows Azure is that there is no single point-of-failure.
