Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother found shot to death
Mother & brother of Oscar winning actress & singer Jennifer Hudson were found shot to death yesterday. Her seven-year-old nephew is currently missing. Chicago police have described the shootings as domestic violence.
Darnell Donerson, Jennifer Hudson mother, 57, was in the audience in Hollywood last year as Hudson collected the Oscar for best supporting actress in Dreamgirls movie, was found shot dead in the living room on Friday afternoon, & 29 year old Jason Hudson, Jennifer Hudson brother was found shot in the bedroom.

This is is such a sad story…I feel so deeply for what Jennifer and the other family members must be going through.
I hope it is a wake up call for black people to stop minimizing mental illness among their relatives… saying “he’s tripping” and “she’s tripping” and not taking mental illness SERIOUSLY because a mentally ill person who does not get treatment can be a viable threat to everyone’s well-being.
Our people will cry and wail at the funerals when these tragedies happen but WHO in the family ever called the behavior what it was: MENTAL ILLNESS.
Let us do more than lament their loss. Let us be compelled to become more self-examining!
Let’s allow this tragedy to open the conversation on the denial that permeates in black communities and black families about refusing to acknowledge and call OUT mental and emotional illness in our own family units.
I will pray for the comfort and healing of the family.
Let this be a lesson for all.
