Pregnant man’ (Thomas Beatie) gives birth to baby girl
A transsexual man, who was born a woman but now lives as a man has given birth to a baby girl. The american Thomas Beatie went into labour early yesterday and had to be rushed to hospital. The 34-year-old kept his female reproductive organs when he legally became a man 10 years ago following intensive hormone treatment. His baby girl was conceived through artificial insemination using donor sperm & Beatie’s own eggs.
Mr Beattie announced his pregnancy in April 2008 on the Oprah Winfrey show, telling the presenter that he had always wanted to have children. Mr Beatie obstetrician, Dr Kimberly James, told Oprah Winfrey show in April: “This baby is totally healthy. This is what I consider a normal pregnancy.”
