Oil-for-Food Fraud
Ludmil Dionissiev, an oil trader, was sentenced in New York to two years of probation and a $5,000 fine for his role in a conspiracy to defraud the United Nations oil-for-food program in Iraq during Saddam Hussein’s rule. He pleaded guilty in August to federal fraud and conspiracy charges after admitting that he had negotiated purchases of Iraqi oil for a Texas oil company, Bayoil USA, at illegally inflated prices.[nytimes]
